I have video files that downloaded off an SD card as .mod files. We used Datavyu's conversion tool to create .mp4 files out of them, but now playback is choppy and there is no audio when we open them within Datavyu to start coding. When I open the .mp4 file in Windows Media Player the playback is smooth but there is still no audio.

I am using Datavyu 1.2.2 on a Windows 10 PC with Quicktime 7.7.9. Any advice for getting smoother playback and audio when using converted video files?

Please convert the video using Handbrake. Since 1.2.2 we've deprecated the converter utility in favor of Handbrake: It is free and open-source.

The default conversion settings are fine (make sure the output format is MP4, not MKV).

Please try this out and let us know if you continue to have issues with the transcoded file.

Thanks for the response. I just tried converting one of my files using handbrake and I get a similar quality -- choppy visuals and occasional breaks in the audio. For now I am using slow motion so it doesn't matter as much, but in the future I'd like to be able to watch the videos at regular speed and get a clear sound quality. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Edited to add: the quality is definitely higher/better than the video after using the datavyu conversion tool.
