Announcing the new Datavyu v1.3.6 with enhanced features and transcription support!

Hi Datavyu group,

I was trying to export the .opf data from datavyu to .csv file using the script you guys shared with me when I went to the workshop in May. However, the "NoMethodError" kept coming up. I tried to understand the whole script but I was still confused by this error.

The error is as below: NoMethodError: undefined method `get_codes' for #<rcell:0x12d57f4> method_missing at org/jruby/RubyBasicObject.java:1535 (root) at <script>:64 map at org/jruby/RubyArray.java:2412 (root) at <script>:59 each at org/jruby/RubyArray.java:1613 (root) at <script>:49

I'm not sure if it was because I ran the script incorrectly. Any possible resolutions?

I'm using windows 10 and datavyu 1.3.4. Both data file and script are kept on the local drive.

I can send them to you in a way you prefer.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

It's complaining about the get_codes() function for the RCell class. IIRC get_codes is only present in Datavyu version 1.3.6 and 1.3.4 has the older function: get_args. You could try replacing all the get_codes in the script with get_args.

If that doesn't work, you could try using the newest version of the API file: Datavyu_API.rb

To use it, you need to copy the contents and save to a .rb file somewhere on your computer. You would then need to update the require statement inside the script to point to that new file.

If you e-mail us the script (info@datavyu.org) we can send you a 1.3.4-compatible version.

That's totally fine! I think I figured that out accidentally. But still have another question about the exported csv file. For the column that I use to transcribe (p_speech), I only have one code (speech). Since I'm transcribing the whole utterances, "," will appear in the utterances. However, the script divided the whole utterance into different columns in excel sheet just because they have commas in between. Anywhere I can make a change in the script I sent to you to fix this? Thanks so much!!

Easiest way is to change the delimiter to a tabspace: "\t". And change the change the extension on the exported filename from a .csv to a .txt or .tsv. My version of Excel (2011) parses that correctly. I've sent you the edited script with a delimiter parameter and updated the template it's derived from (https://github.com/databrary/Datavyu-Example-Scripts/blob/master/Export/ComboExport.rb).
