Announcing the new Datavyu v1.3.6 with enhanced features and transcription support!

The videos that I am trying to code play very choppy and lagged. This is making coding impossible. I'm wondering if there is something I'm supposed to alter in the program itself in order to make the videos play smoothly? They play smoothly in my media player, but not in the program.

Let's try to find out why your videos are so laggy. Can you help me answer a few questions?

What version of Datavyu are you using?

We suggest using the most recent developmental release: version 1.2.2

Please tell me about the specs of the computer you're coding on.

These are the system requirements on our download page: Java 1.6-7, at least 1GB RAM, 1.2 GHz processor for Macs and 2.67 GHz for Windows.

What format are your videos in?

We support video file formats that are supported by QuickTime. You can find the list here: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201290

What media player were you using when testing videos outside the Datavyu program?

We ask our users to test their videos in QuickTime to see if it will play smoothly in Datavyu.

I am using version 1.2.2

Java was last updated on 1/13/2015, so I'm assuming it's up to par. I have 3GB RAM and a 3.00GHz processor for Windows.

The videos are in .m4v and play in Windows Media Player.

It does not play in QuickTime.

Correction: the video DOES play in QuickTime

Thank you for getting that information for me.

Does the video quality seem the same when playing the video in Quicktime and Datavyu?

If it does not, Datavyu might not be capturing your video in the correct frame rate. You can check the rate by looking at the Controller and seeing if the Steps per Second matches the rate of your video. If it does not, you can enter the correct frame rate and press Enter.
